How to use the Stone Canoe Submission Manager:

If you already have an account, you do not need to use this form. New accounts must be created for each new issue.

  1. Fill in all of your contact information. Use your own first and last name. "Writer's name" is how the name will appear in the journal if the submission is accepted. It is the field where you may record a pen name or pseudonym or a more formal version of your name, however you prefer to be published. NOTE RE: EMAIL Your account is based on your email address. If you share an account with another writer or artist who would like to submit, you will each need separate accounts. Sites where you can get free accounts include: gmail.com, yahoo.com, and msn.com.
  2. Fill in the title of the work you are submitting. If you are submitting multiple works, submit individually to the same account so there can be no confusion on which title goes with which item. We accept one piece of prose fiction or nonfiction, up to five poems and up to five works of visual art per person per issue for consideration. You may enter up to the limit in any or all of the genres.
  3. Use the browse button to find the file on your computer that you would like to submit. Select the file and click on the open button. Your file will then appear in the "file" field. Writers should submit work in either Rich Text Format (rtf) or as a Word document. Visual artists may attach low resolution (72 dpi) tif, gif, or jpg images. If accepted for publication, high resolution images will be required.
  4. Submit a short biography including your connection to Upstate New York. Please limit your biography to 100 words or less. You may change it later if your work is selected. The biography may be composed in the comments field or uploaded into that field in Word or rtf format. If you also add any comments in the field, please preface them with "Comments:" to distinguish them from your biography. Once you have completed this field, hit submit. This will submit your work and also simultaneously create your account. Please use this account to submit any additional work. You need not resubmit a biography with each piece. If you are submitting photographs, please include in the comments both your biography and the year you created the piece(s). If you are submitting other visual art work, please include in the comments the year created, the media used, and the dimensions (WxH).
  5. You will then have the option to review your information and confirm that it is correct. Hit continue and you're done. If you have any questions or problems regarding your submission, please contact Allison Vincent at either 315-443-4165 or advincen@uc.syr.edu. Thank you for your submission!
